Sekondi youth demand money from politicians before voting

Some young voters in Sekondi have hit the streets demanding monies from politicians before they cast their vote.

Speaking to MX24, the youth mentioned that they have monetized their votes for a common reason – unemployment.

They lamented unemployment has become endemic in the community and “these politicians are only interested in our votes so we sell them to who is willing to pay”, one of them said.

“No money no votes. You must understand that there are no jobs in the country and our community is no exception. We need money and this is just the right moment to make such demands”, another stated.

Sadly, despite being the capital and host to several businesses, the area has one of the highest number of unemployed youth in the Western Region.

While monitoring the general elections in the area, these youth were spotted in a bargain with some party people to get their votes cast on condition they pay them.

It was without shame nor regret as they justified their demands.

They however dispelled any rumour that someone is behind their demands, saying that “many of us are from the NPP and some from the NDC but we want to stick with our decision.”

One of them disclosed that they are numbering over four hundred, all stationed at the polling stations awaiting any potential bidder who is willing to pay before they cast their votes.
