Renowned Nigerian filmmaker and television director Chukwuemeka Okpara has been honored with the prestigious title of Supreme African Filmmaker of the Year at the 4th edition of the Supreme Dynamic Talent Academy (SDTA) Awards Gala 2024.
The award recognizes his outstanding work on the health TV talk show “Health and Life with Dr. Daly,” which he directed and produced.
The show, which airs every Sunday at 5:30 PM on Ghone TV, showcases Okpara’s commitment to promoting health awareness. This accolade marks him as a two-time award recipient at the SDTA Awards, further solidifying his impact on the entertainment landscape.
The SDTA Awards ceremony took place on December 19, 2024, at the luxurious La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra, Ghana.
The event was a star-studded affair, featuring captivating performances, including the legendary Sir Gyedu Blay Ambolley, saxophone acts, and vibrant cultural dance displays.
Guests enjoyed an evening of laughter, fine champagne, and dazzling attire, as iconic figures were celebrated with prestigious awards and special recognitions. Okpara’s win was a highlight of the evening, with many in attendance praising his dedication to African storytelling.
Okpara, known as Emeka, is a Nigerian creative film and television director and producer based primarily in Ghana. Originally from Imo State, Nigeria, Emeka pursued his studies in filmmaking in Nigeria before advancing to a film school in Ghana, specializing in film producing and directing.
His filmmaking career began in 2010 when he co-directed “Equatorial Escape,” which achieved significant sales during the VCD era in Opera Square.
He further gained recognition for directing the acclaimed television series “Twisted Tips,” aired on Viasat 1 TV in 2011.
Emeka is passionate about creating premium African content and telling African stories with global appeal. In 2018, he produced the highly regarded film “Sometimes in Yesterday,” which earned him the Best Producer award and the film itself won Best West African Film at the Uganda Film Festival.
Okpara’s accolades also include Best Film Producer at the Nollywood African Film Festival UK in 2019, along with numerous awards from Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, and the UK. Notably, Emeka was honored as the Supreme African Film Director of the Year 2023 at the prestigious SDTA Awards.
Currently, Emeka Okpara’s health talk show airs on Ghone TV every Sunday at 5:30 PM GMT. His filmography includes a wide range of productions, such as “Girl Talk,” “The Pain I Go Through,” “Nwa Ghana,” and “Bianca,” among many others.
In his acceptance speech, Okpara expressed his deepest gratitude to the SDTA Awards for recognizing his work and the contributions of countless filmmakers across Africa.
“Thank you so much for this incredible honor,” he said. “Standing here tonight as the Supreme African Filmmaker of the Year at the 4th edition of the Supreme Dynamic Talent Academy Awards Gala 2024 is both humbling and exhilarating.”
He dedicated the award to all the storytellers in Africa who are tirelessly working to share their rich and diverse narratives with the world.
