A heated war of words has erupted within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, publicly clashed with the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua.
At the center of the controversy is a directive issued by Kodua, cautioning party members against engaging with the media on internal party matters. Adwoa Safo has vehemently opposed the directive, arguing that it is unconstitutional and an attempt to stifle free speech.
“We all have the right to express ourselves, and that includes me,” Adwoa Safo asserted in an interview with JoyNews.
“Nobody brought me to the party, and the party is not for anyone. We are all in there to build the party, so nobody can force me out and can’t force me to keep my mouth shut.”
Adwoa Safo also took aim at Kodua’s own public comments, criticizing his inconsistency and selective application of the directive.
“The General Secretary began speaking publicly after we lost the election… He even went as far as telling people not to blame him for the loss,” she noted.
The former MP further accused Kodua of attempting to silence her and other party members who dare to speak out against the party’s leadership.
“There has been a character assassination on me. I have been defamed by my own party… Whatever they have painted me as to bring me down is not the truth. I will make sure the truth is known.”
The NPP has referred Adwoa Safo to the disciplinary committee over her recent media comments, further escalating the tensions within the party.
As the infighting continues to simmer, it remains to be seen how the party will address the growing discontent among its members.
