The Judicial Service of Ghana has announced a significant change in the way cases are assigned in the Superior Courts.
According to a memorandum dated April 23, 2025, all newly filed cases and applications will now be assigned by the Acting Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie.
This directive, signed by Deputy Judicial Secretary Dr. Cyracus B. Bapuuroh, overrides all previous instructions on court assignments and will remain in effect until further notice. The move is expected to streamline case management and ensure uniformity in the judicial process.
Under the new directive, registrars of the High Courts, Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court will refer all new filings to the Acting Chief Justice for assignment. This includes empanelling judges in multi-court jurisdictions and scheduling hearing dates.
The Judicial Service aims to enhance the efficiency and consistency of court proceedings through this centralized approach to case assignment.
The directive takes immediate effect, marking a new era in the management of cases in Ghana’s Superior Courts.
