Former Assin Central MP and presidential aspirant Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has withdrawn from the NPP’s ongoing “Thank You” tour, citing security concerns after a violent incident in Kumasi. A KNUST student affiliated with Unity Hall was stabbed during a confrontation with alleged NPP affiliates at an event.
Speaking at a press briefing, Agyapong stated, “Because of what happened yesterday, my team and I want to pull out because lives are threatened, and I don’t think I can protect my team enough. So we want out so that Dr Bawumia can do his campaign.”
The incident occurred when a group of armed men, believed to be affiliated with the NPP, allegedly took money from a Jama group hired to perform at the event.
A confrontation ensued, resulting in the stabbing. The victim is currently receiving treatment at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
Agyapong’s team has lodged a complaint with the Kumasi Central Police Command, and he has pledged to seek justice for the victim.
