The government has announced plans to introduce a bill in Parliament to rename several public universities, including the C.K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS).
Minister for Education Haruna Iddrisu disclosed this during the swearing-in ceremony of the Governing Council of CKT-UTAS.
The decision forms part of a broader initiative to review and potentially rename public universities established or renamed during the tenure of former President Nana Akufo-Addo.
CKT-UTAS, established in 2021 to provide students with practical and technical skills for the global job market, has faced infrastructure challenges affecting its academic development. The university’s name has also drawn mixed reactions from the public.
The government’s move aims to address concerns surrounding the renaming of public universities. The decision is expected to spark debate among stakeholders and the general public.
