A tense confrontation allegedly unfolded at the entrance of Parliament House on Monday, May 5, 2025, during the “Save the Judiciary” demonstration. Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Minority Leader, claims assaulted by a police officer, Constable Forson, without provocation.
According to a statement issued by Afenyo-Markin, the incident occurred while he was guiding protesters to present a petition to Parliament.
“I was attacked unprovoked by Constable Forson, who knew exactly who I was,” he alleged. The MP described the blow as a “deliberate and disgraceful act of violence” that left him dazed and breathless.
Afenyo-Markin has filed a formal complaint with the Inspector-General of Police, calling for an urgent investigation into the officer’s conduct.
He condemned attempts to distort the narrative and frame him as the aggressor, emphasizing the need to uphold the demonstration’s purpose: defending Ghana’s Constitution and judicial independence.
The Ghana Police Service has yet to issue an official response to the allegations.
