
The Government has appointed Professor Seidu Mahama Alidu as the new Executive Secretary of the Water Resources Commission.
This strategic appointment comes at a critical time when sustainable water governance is essential to Ghana’s environmental and developmental agenda.
Professor Alidu, currently an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Political Science at the University of Ghana, brings a wealth of academic, policy, and governance experience to his new role.
He is expected to lead the Commission’s efforts in managing Ghana’s water resources effectively.
Professor Alidu has an impressive track record of academic and policy engagement.
He was a Donahue Institute Scholar on United States’ Political Thought at the University of Massachusetts in 2014 and served as a fellow at the Maria Sibylla Merian Institute for Advanced Studies in Africa (MIASA).
He has collaborated with various international institutions and think tanks, including the Partnership for African Social and Governance Research (PASGR) and the Institute for Development Studies at the University of Sussex.
Professor Alidu is a co-editor of the African Yearbook and serves on the editorial board of the African Journal of Defence, Security and Strategy.
He has published scholarly work in prestigious journals, including African Affairs and Ghana Studies.
Two of his forthcoming books, “Political Institutions and Communication Perspectives in Ghana: Three Decades of Ghana’s Fourth Republic” and “Public Sector Management and Economic Governance in Ghana: Three Decades of Ghana’s Fourth Republic”, are set to be published by Palgrave Macmillan.
The appointment of Professor Alidu is expected to bring a multidimensional, research-informed approach to water resource policy and governance in Ghana.
