The completion of President John Dramani Mahama’s 120-day social contract has drawn praise from renowned economist and governance expert, Professor Stephen Adei.
While acknowledging the administration’s impressive start, Prof Adei cautions against premature celebration.
Prof Adei, in an interview with Joy News said President Mahama has made significant strides in a short period.
“Anybody who is objective would say he has done very well.” The economist noted that the administration has achieved notable milestones, including policy reversals and the reopening of long-demanded criminal investigations.
However, Prof Adei warned against overpraising the administration too early, citing the example of former President Akufo-Addo’s first term.
“We must be very careful over praising John in 120 days,” he said. “Because in the first term of Akufo-Addo, I think that he performed very well and then everybody’s hopes were dashed… and I think that Akufo-Addo’s government in the second term did so badly.”
Prof Adei emphasized the importance of long-term consistency and the ability to correct emerging flaws. “We hope he will be able to continue and sustain it, make corrections of any lapses, and deliver the Ghana we want,” he added.
