The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Communications Director, Richard Ahiagbah, has lambasted President John Dramani Mahama’s initial 120 days in office, labeling them a regression for Ghana.
In an interview on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Ahiagbah questioned the efficacy of Mahama’s policies, asserting that the challenges confronting Ghanaians have intensified under his stewardship.
“What tangible benefits have accrued from all the promises he’s made since taking office? What pressing issues has he resolved? That’s the crux of the matter,” Ahiagbah probed.
Ahiagbah faulted the Mahama administration for failing to fulfill key campaign pledges, notably job creation and cost-of-living reduction.
“The cost of living has skyrocketed since his inauguration. Job creation, another key promise, has yielded nothing but disappointment. Unemployment rates have soared. Where are the jobs they promised to create for the youth?” he queried.
The NPP spokesperson also ridiculed the 24-hour economy initiative, branding it a “scam” devoid of concrete implementation plans.
“We warned Ghanaians about this gimmick. With the 24-hour economy touted as a flagship policy, we won’t see any meaningful progress in his first year, or perhaps even in his second term. Mark my words, it won’t materialize,” Ahiagbah stated.
Ahiagbah further alleged that Ghana is experiencing a resurgence of “dumsor” and that the judiciary is under duress. He concluded that Mahama’s governance has yielded a net negative impact on the country.
“There’s no discernible progress; dumsor is back, and the judiciary is under siege. Assessing Mahama’s 120-day tenure, it’s clear that the drawbacks far outweigh any perceived benefits. His leadership has been a setback for Ghana,” Ahiagbah emphasized.
