
Three people have been confirmed dead following a fatal accident involving three trucks at Akyem Asafo in the Abuakwa South Municipality of the Eastern Region, on the morning of Monday, May 12.
The accident, which occurred along the busy Accra-Kumasi highway, also left two others severely injured. The injured victims are currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.
According to eyewitness accounts, a Scania truck with registration number GS 6429-11 and a Howo tipper truck with an unconfirmed registration number collided with a stationary DAF trailer loaded with cocoa. The trailer, bearing registration number 6294-11, had broken down in the middle of the road.
The violent impact claimed the lives of the Scania driver and two female passengers, believed to be traders, who were travelling in the same vehicle.
Emergency responders from the Ghana National Fire Service at Bunso, supported by personnel from the Suhum command, the Suhum Police MTTD, and the Ghana National Ambulance Service, quickly arrived at to carry out rescue operations and manage traffic flow.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Suhum Government Hospital morgue for identification and preservation. Meanwhile, the police have launched an investigation into the incident.
