In a bid to alleviate growing concerns over frequent power outages, Energy Minister John Jinapor has assured Ghanaians that the country’s power supply will stabilize by the end of May 2025.
Speaking in an interview with TV3, Mr. Jinapor explained that the recent power challenges are a result of crucial maintenance work being carried out on several power plants across the country.
“These are plants that have gone beyond their normal operating hours. If we delay the servicing, the plants could get damaged,” he said.
The Minister emphasized that the maintenance work is necessary to prevent potential damage to the plants, which have been operating for extended periods without proper servicing.
He added that most of the heavy maintenance work will be completed in May, and by June, there will be less need for repairs, leading to a more reliable power supply.
Mr. Jinapor appealed to Ghanaians to be patient during this period, saying, “We will do everything possible to reduce the impact on citizens. This is a necessary step for long-term benefits.”
The Minister’s reassurance comes amid growing public frustration with the erratic power cuts, commonly known as “dumsor.” With the expected stabilization of power supply by May’s end, Ghanaians can look forward to a more reliable electricity supply.
