The Minority in Parliament has called for the immediate suspension of Sammy Gyamfi as Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD) following a viral video showing him handing over US dollars to evangelist Patricia Oduro Koranteng, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.
At a press conference on Monday, May 12, 2025, Dr. Kabiru Tia Mahama, Member of Parliament for Walewale and member of the Finance Committee, urged President Akufo-Addo to take swift action against Gyamfi.
“The minority are calling for the immediate suspension of Sammy Gyamfi, as acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board,” Dr. Mahama stated. “This is upfront on the Code of Conduct, it is against the Forex Exchange Act and also against the Currency Act.”
Dr. Mahama emphasized that Gyamfi, being a lawyer of high repute, cannot claim ignorance of the law. “Even though the Chief Justice mentioned that ignorance of the law is no excuse, Sammy Gyamfi is not ignorant of the law. He is a lawyer of high repute and understands clearly the consequences of this action. So, he ought to take responsibility for the same.”
The Minority has also demanded a full-scale investigation into the source of the dollar currencies displayed in the viral video. “We call for a full investigation into the source of the dollars displayed in the viral video,” Dr. Mahama added.
Meanwhile, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has summoned Gyamfi for a meeting regarding the incident. This development comes after Gyamfi issued an apology following public backlash over the video.
The controversy surrounding Mr. Gyamfi’s actions has sparked widespread debate, with many questioning the propriety of his behavior as the Acting CEO of a state institution. The outcome of the investigation and the President’s response to the Minority’s demands remain to be seen.
