The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has announced that recent mediation efforts in the Bawku conflict have led to a period of relative calm in the area.
The peace talks, which were held between April 28 and April 30, brought together representatives from the feuding Kusasi and Mamprusi factions.
Although the discussions were temporarily suspended, the Asantehene expressed optimism that the process would soon resume.
“We are still on the matter, and we will meet again to address the issues. We are not done yet. But the little we have done has brought some calm in the area. We will brief you and the Ghanaians soon,” Otumfuo stated during a meeting with Inspector-General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno at the Manhyia Palace.
The Asantehene’s mediation efforts aim to find a lasting solution to the conflict. While progress has been made, more work is needed to achieve peace.
The resumption of talks is expected to further address the issues and bring the conflict closer to resolution.
