The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has launched a scathing attack on Sammy Gyamfi, Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, over allegations of extravagance and flaunting an ostentatious lifestyle.
The criticism follows the circulation of a video showing Gyamfi gifting US dollars to self-styled evangelist Nana Agradaa.
Addressing a press conference in Accra today, NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye expressed disappointment in Sammy Gyamfi’s actions, stating, “It may have escaped many observers of this unfortunate incident, but not only was Mr Sammy Gyamfi giving out United States dollars without restraint, but he also engaged in painted opulence just after 120 days in government.”
His concerns were further fueled by the luxury vehicle Sammy Gyamfi was driven in on the day the video was recorded.
“On the day in question, Mr Gyamfi was being driven in a 2025 Range Rover Autobiography valued at $350,000,” he revealed.
The NPP National Organiser condemned Sammy Gyamfi’s perceived lack of confidence in the Ghanaian cedi, saying, “It is palpable unethical and a complete betrayal of the public trust for Mr Sammy Gyamfi to receive all these benefits on the back of helping maintain a steady currency, yet failed to have any iota of confidence in the Ghana cedi to the extent of using the US Dollars of daily use.”
The controversy surrounding Gyamfi’s actions has sparked debate about the responsibility of public officials to promote fiscal prudence and confidence in the local currency.
Meanwhile, Sammy Gyamfi has since apologized for his actions.
