After nearly a decade on the run, the Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested one of the region’s most wanted men—32-year-old Michael Owusu Ansah, infamously known as Baby Last.
Ansah had been on the police radar since 2016 following his alleged involvement in a high-profile robbery and the brutal killing of Police Officer G/Cpl Frank Essel of the SWAT Unit. The deadly incident occurred on May 19, 2016, at the Open Space Hotel in Denchemuoso.
At a press briefing, Ashanti Regional Police PRO DSP Godwin Ahianyo revealed that Ansah was finally arrested on April 22, 2025, by a team of police intelligence officers. He was picked up alongside four accomplices. During interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted to multiple violent robberies across Denchemuoso, Atwima-Techiman, Asuoyeboah, and surrounding areas.
All five suspects were arraigned before the Atasomanso Circuit Court on May 13, 2025, and have been remanded into custody. They are scheduled to reappear in court on June 4.
In a separate operation on May 8, three armed men—Umar Issah (26), Sherif Mohammed (20), and Abdul Jalelu (19)—were arrested after robbing two residents in Kenyasi. The suspects, who attacked on motorbikes, stole mobile phones before attempting to flee. A police pursuit ensued, during which Sherif Mohammed sustained a gunshot wound to the rib, while the others were injured during the chase.
All three are receiving medical treatment under tight police guard at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command says it remains committed to clamping down on criminal activity and maintaining public safety across the region.
