
A Tamale High Court has found six individuals guilty of engaging in a payroll corruption scheme at the Ghana Education Service (GES).
The convicts, comprising school administrators, payroll officers, and accountants, were implicated in a scandal involving the illegal validation and reactivation of salary payments for a teacher who had vacated their position.
The fraudulent activities resulted in unauthorized payments totaling GHS 86,000. Notably, the full amount of GHS 106,319.64, which includes the misappropriated funds, has been recovered.
According to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), investigations are ongoing, and other suspects are under scrutiny. The OSP is presently handling six other criminal trials in Accra, Tamale, and Kumasi.
The OSP emphasized its dedication to safeguarding public funds, highlighting that the conviction demonstrates its commitment to this cause. Details regarding other suspects under investigation remain undisclosed.
