Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has alleged that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) reacted swiftly to Sammy Gyamfi’s recent controversy to divert attention from the Cecilia Dapaah scandal.
Sammy Gyamfi, CEO of Goldbod Group, was embroiled in a controversy surrounding a dollar gift given to evangelist Patricia Asiedu, also known as Agradaa.
Speaking on TV3’s Keypoint show on Saturday, May 17, 2025, Kpebu said, “Sammy Gyamfi did not receive a fair hearing. The NPP were quick to get off the blocks because they are looking for a case to equalize the Cecilia Dapaah issue.”
Kpebu highlighted the differences between Gyamfi’s case and the Cecilia Dapaah scandal, where large sums of money were found in her home with unclear explanations.
“In the Cecilia Dapaah case, large amounts of money were found in her home, which she could not properly explain. At first, she said the money came from cosmetic businesses, but investigations by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) revealed the businesses were not hers. Later, she claimed the money belonged to her late brother, but she later withdrew that explanation as well,” Kpebu explained.
He emphasized that the two situations are distinct and should not be treated similarly, referencing Ghana’s Anti-Money Laundering Act (Act 1044).
According to Kpebu, the law assumes that unexplained property or income may be linked to money laundering unless proven otherwise.
