The Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited (GWL), Adam Mutawakilu, has categorically denied allegations that he abrogated contracts with security companies providing services to the company.
Speaking on TV3’s ‘Hot Issues’, Mutawakilu said those making the claims should provide evidence to support them.
“When I saw the post, I thought the person would have provided evidence,” he stated.
According to Mutawakilu, contracts signed between GWL and the security companies under the previous government expired on March 31, 2025. He claimed he reminded the companies of the impending expiration and called for fresh applications.
“We provide security to all our installations, so security companies enter into agreements with Ghana Water Limited for a year, which is subject to renewal or abrogation,” he explained.
Mutawakilu revealed that only one of the 17 security companies visited him to express interest in continuing their services. He subsequently extended the application deadline to April 28, 2025, and instructed the legal department to notify the companies.
“In fact, only one of the 17 security companies even visited me to introduce themselves, so I then extended it for another month to 28 April 2025. I even requested the legal department to write to them that I had extended the deadline, so I don’t see where I have abrogated,” he reiterated.
The GWL MD emphasized that new contracts have been issued to companies that met the requirements, including some existing ones that had previously provided security services. He stressed that the process of renewing or awarding new contracts was conducted fairly.
Mutawakilu assured that Ghana Water Limited has maintained its security arrangements, with both new and existing companies providing services to the organization.
