The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued a warning of continued heavy and frequent rainfall in the coming days, following recent flooding in parts of the Greater Accra Region.
According to Felicity Ahafianyo, Head of GMet’s Central Analysis and Forecast Office, the agency had predicted higher intensity and frequency of rainfall in its seasonal forecast.
“We indicated that it is likely the intensity may be more or higher, and in terms of the frequency, too, it is something that we need to be abreast with. It has started already. As we witnessed yesterday along the coast,” Ahafianyo said on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily.
She added, “On Friday, we had a similar event in the Volta Region, where it also rained for more than an hour. This is how it is going to be until we end the major rainy season over the southern sector.”
Ahafianyo advised residents in flood-prone areas to consider relocating and called on the media to support GMet’s efforts by regularly sharing weather updates.
“We need the media to help us disseminate the information regularly so that people can be aware and prepared,” she emphasized.
The GMet’s warning comes after a recent rainstorm triggered flooding in areas including Pantang, Nsawam, Lakeside, and Kasoa.
