Suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has filed a petition with the Supreme Court, seeking to bar two of its justices, Gabriel Scott Pwamang and Samuel Asiedu, from participating in proceedings that could lead to her removal from office.
According to the petition, filed by former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame, Justices Pwamang and Asiedu allegedly met privately with a lawyer connected to the matter, raising concerns about their impartiality.
The development comes as Justice Torkornoo faces a petition for her removal, prompting her suspension by President John Mahama under Article 146 of the Constitution. The suspension is pending the outcome of the proceedings.
The petition has thrown a spanner in the works, with Justice Torkornoo questioning the impartiality of key members of the bench linked to the inquiry.
The Supreme Court will now have to determine whether the two justices can participate in the proceedings.
The case continues to unfold, with the outcome hanging precariously in the balance.
