The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has emphasized the need for investment in Ghana’s energy sector to support the successful implementation of the 24-hour economy policy.
Meeting with officials from Dream Power Africa, a solar energy company, at the Manhyia Palace, the Asantehene highlighted the critical role of reliable energy in national development.
“If that is going to be successful, then energy must also be available in rural areas, and industries will need it to function efficiently,” Otumfuo Osei Tutu II stated. “So, from a wider perspective, it will all help in the development of this country.”
The Asantehene’s call for investment in the energy sector comes as the government seeks to implement the 24-hour economy policy, aimed at stimulating continuous economic activity across various sectors.
President John Dramani Mahama has described the policy as part of a broader industrialization drive and a solution to Ghana’s youth unemployment challenge.
The policy, which is yet to be implemented, will be voluntary for businesses and supported by appropriate legal and policy frameworks. Augustus Goosie Tanoh has been appointed Presidential Advisor on the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development to lead the initiative’s rollout.
