A former Director of the Ghana School of Law, Kwaku Ansa-Asare, has slammed suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo’s attempt to halt proceedings for her potential removal from office, describing it as unconstitutional.
Speaking to Joy News, Ansa-Asare expressed concern over the development, saying, “This is a very worrying unfolding story that the Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo will seek to stop the constitutional process.”
He emphasized that any attempt to stop the process would be unconstitutional, stating, “Any application to stop the process will itself be unconstitutional.”
Ansa-Asare added that President John Dramani Mahama has acted in accordance with the Constitution, and therefore, “The President has not violated any of the chronological stages in the process. Therefore, it will be a very difficult task for anyone to halt it. It will be a very difficult task for anyone to seek to halt the process.”
Ansa-Asare dismissed the CJ’s application as futile, saying, “What the lawyers are doing at the moment and what the Chief Justice herself has done is to bark but cannot bite; they are merely barking.”
