A petition filed by private citizen Daniel Kwame Ofosu-Appiah has sparked calls for former Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame to respond to allegations of professional misconduct.
The petition, submitted to the Ghana Legal Council, accuses Godfred Dame of attempting to improperly influence a key witness in the trial of Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and Richard Jakpa.
Franklin Cudjoe, President of IMANI Africa, has weighed in on the matter, stating that the allegations are a matter of personal responsibility.
“These are not mere allegations in my view. They are direct actions that challenge the integrity of our legal system,” Franklin Cudjoe said on TV3’s Keypoint show.
“This is not about the sins of a former government. It’s about the personal choices he made as Attorney General,” he added.
Mr. Cudjoe expressed concerns about Godfred Dame’s approach to high-profile cases, questioning whether he prioritized justice or political expediency.
“I was shocked listening to his behavior in court during some of these cases. A Justice Minister should uphold fairness and respect, not throw his weight around.”
Franklin Cudjoe also condemned Dame’s alleged actions, including coaching a witness to lie, describing it as “treasonous.”
While emphasizing the seriousness of the allegations, Mr. Cudjoe called for Dame to be given a fair chance to defend himself.
“This is a matter of law and justice. He must be treated with the respect due to a former Attorney General, but he must also face the consequences of his actions if found guilty,”he said
