The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has warned transport stations and branches against defying the newly implemented 15% fare reduction, cautioning that sanctions will be imposed on those who fail to comply.
According to Godfred Abulbire, General Secretary of GPRTU, some operators in the Ashanti Region have cited late communication as a reason for their delay in adjusting fares. However, Abulbire emphasized that non-compliance will not be tolerated.
“A particular punishment drivers do not like is to seize him or stop him from loading. So we think that is what we need to do,” Abulbire stated.
The fare reduction directive was introduced in response to declining fuel prices, with authorities expecting transport operators to adjust their fares accordingly.
While some operators have adhered to the new pricing structure, others have resisted, citing operational costs.
The GPRTU’s warning aims to ensure that all transport operators comply with the new fare structure and provide relief to passengers. The union’s firm stance underscores its commitment to enforcing the directive and protecting the interests of passengers.
