The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed 10 new cases of Monkeypox (Mpox), bringing the total number of recorded infections in the country to 19.
According to the GHS, five of the newly confirmed patients are currently receiving treatment in hospitals. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported in connection with the outbreak.
Mpox is a viral disease that can be transmitted through close contact with infected individuals, animals, or contaminated materials.
Symptoms of the disease include fever, rash, swollen lymph nodes, muscle aches, back pain, headaches, and fatigue.
The GHS is urging the public to take preventive measures to curb the spread of the virus.
These measures include frequent handwashing, avoiding physical contact with individuals showing symptoms, and reporting suspected cases to health facilities promptly.
The health authority has also stepped up surveillance and public education efforts across the country to contain the outbreak.
