
Veteran Ghanaian journalist Nana Kwasi Gyan-Apenteng has passed away at 74 after a short battle with cancer in London.
He was a distinguished voice in Ghana’s media landscape, known for his insightful commentaries and commitment to ethical journalism.
Nana Gyan-Apenteng had a storied career, serving as a former editor and columnist for The Mirror newspaper, where his writings resonated with readers across generations. He also worked as deputy editor of the now-defunct West Africa magazine in London during the late 1980s and early 1990s.
In addition to his journalistic work, Nana Gyan-Apenteng was a highly respected media trainer and communications consultant, lending his expertise to numerous organizations, including MTN, the United Nations, the Media Foundation for West Africa, and STAR Ghana. He also held the traditional title of Apagyahene of Tafo Eti in the Eastern Region.
Nana Gyan-Apenteng’s legacy extends beyond his journalistic work. He was admired for his commitment to ethical journalism, cultural preservation, and mentoring the next generation of media professionals. He served as Chairman of the National Media Commission from 2015 to 2018 and was President of the Ghana Association of Writers.
He is survived by six children, and his family will announce funeral arrangements in due course.
