The Majority Chief Whip in Parliament, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has responded to speculation surrounding National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament who are yet to be appointed as ministers.
Despite President John Dramani Mahama’s pledge to work with 60 ministers, only 56 appointments have been made so far, leaving four positions unfilled.
In an interview on Channel One TV’s Face to Face, Dafeamekpor dismissed claims that the unappointed MPs are hungry, idle, or jobless. “My MPs are not hungry, they are not idle, and they are not jobless,” he affirmed.
According to Dafeamekpor, the MPs are actively engaged in constituency work and remain committed to the party’s agenda.
He also highlighted the impact of President Mahama’s ministerial pledge on the 2024 elections, noting that it compelled Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s presidential candidate, to make a similar promise.
“When flagbearer and now President Mahama promised to appoint 60 ministers, it compelled Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia [2024 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party] to also promise 50,” Dafeamekpor stated. “I can say that, that kind of promise also endeared him to the people for the massive votes.”
Dafeamekpor emphasized that the NDC remains united and focused on fulfilling its commitments to the Ghanaian people.
