The Chief Executive Officer of Ghana’s Shippers Authority, Professor Ransford Gyampo, has called for a change in leadership within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) if the party hopes to regain credibility in the eyes of Ghanaians.
Prof. Gyampo made this assertion in a televised interview on TV3’s “The Key Points” on Saturday, May 31, 2025.
According to Prof. Gyampo, the NPP’s handling of key issues such as illegal mining and power cuts has been marked by arrogance and incompetence.
He emphasized that unless the party undergoes a transformation, including the emergence of new leaders, it does not deserve to govern even at the village level.
“The NPP has been arrogant and incompetent, especially in their handling of illegal mining and power cuts. If they don’t repent or come up with a new crop of leaders, they don’t fit to govern even a village,” Prof. Gyampo stated.
This criticism comes after the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 general elections, where the party lost both the presidential and parliamentary contests to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The NDC, now led by President John Mahama, has initiated measures to stabilize the economy and tackle the issue of illegal small-scale mining.
Prof. Gyampo’s comments have added to the growing debate about the NPP’s future and the need for a change in leadership to revitalize the party.
