The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has withdrawn his motion challenging the conditions of his bail.
The motion, filed at the High Court in Accra on May 30, 2025, was set for hearing on June 3 but was formally withdrawn by his legal team on June 2.
Chairman Wontumi had contested the GH¢50 million bail bond imposed by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), arguing it was excessive and could hinder his release.
He has been in EOCO custody since May 28, 2025, facing allegations of fraud, causing financial loss to the state, and money laundering.
The Deputy Attorney General, Justice Srem-Sai, has disclosed that a second phase of the investigation links Wontumi to a broader international organized crime syndicate.
