Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club has announced a one-year contract extension with Ghana international defender Tariq Lamptey. The 24-year-old right-back has been an integral part of the Seagulls’ squad since joining the club in 2020.
During his tenure, Lamptey has accumulated 122 appearances across all competitions, scoring five goals and providing 12 assists. Despite facing injury challenges last season, which limited him to 20 appearances, he managed to score three goals and deliver two assists.
Brighton & Hove Albion’s head coach, Fabian Hurzeler, expressed his delight at Lamptey’s contract extension, highlighting his versatility and impact on the team. “We’re delighted Tariq is staying with us,” Hurzeler said. “He wants to help the team achieve our targets and gives us great options in wide areas. We are looking forward to Tariq being part of our journey next season.”
Lamptey’s journey to Brighton began after a move from Chelsea, where he featured in over 50 games for the Blues’ youth team and made three senior appearances. His performances in the Premier League and international honors with Ghana have solidified his reputation as a promising defender.
The contract extension is part of Brighton & Hove Albion’s strategy to build a strong squad for the future, with the aim of improving their standing in the Premier League and potentially securing European football.
The club has also secured contracts with several other players, including Abdallah Sima, Seb Jensen, Harry Mills, Odel Offiah, and Jamie Mullins.
