The people of the Savannah region will soon witness the establishment of a public university in the region.
This came to light when President John Dramani Mahama embark on a thank-you tour in the region on Saturday, June 14.
The establishment of the university in the Savannah region, the President said, aligns with the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s 2024 manifesto pledge to create public universities in all six newly established regions.
“I’m proud to announce that, in line with the NDC’s 2024 manifesto to establish a public university in each of the six new regions, a public university will be built right here in the Savannah Region,” he stated.
Being the first public university in the region, President Mahama indicated that, it would be more than a symbolic gesture, serving as a functional and strategic addition to Ghana’s development framework.
“This university will not only be symbolic; it will be functional, targeted, and grounded in our national agenda for skills-driven development,” Mahama declared.
The president also underscored the university’s role in supporting his administration’s Feed Ghana programme, which seeks to transform agriculture into a major driver of economic growth and job creation.
“This university will train the human resources to drive our Feed Ghana programme and help deliver an agriculture-for-economic-transformation agenda,” he emphasised.
