The 14th Chinese Medical Team to Ghana has donated a substantial consignment of medical equipment, consumables, and pharmaceuticals to the Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipal (LEKMA) Hospital, boosting Ghana’s capacity for minimally invasive surgery and expanding support for the Beautiful World Charity Project.
The donation ceremony, held at LEKMA Hospital in Accra, was attended by senior Ghanaian and Chinese officials, underscoring the deepening health cooperation between the two nations.
“This donation will significantly boost healthcare delivery and deepen our health cooperation,” said Minister of Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, who received the items on behalf of the Ghanaian government.
He also urged hospital leadership, led by Dr. Akua Gyimah Asante, to ensure the effective use and maintenance of the equipment to serve patients efficiently and improve health outcomes.
Donation to Bolster Surgical Care and Patient Safety
The donation supports two key initiatives:
-
Minimally Invasive Surgery Project (Laparoscopic Surgeries)
-
Beautiful World Charity Project, which delivers compassionate care to underserved communities.
Dr. Akua Gyimah Asante, Superintendent of LEKMA Hospital, said the donation would enhance patient safety, reduce recovery times, and ensure continuity in the supply of essential medications.
“This is a renewed testament to the power of international collaboration and a shared commitment to improving healthcare,” she said.
China’s Continued Medical Support to Ghana
Speaking at the event, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Tong Defa, highlighted that since 2009, China has deployed over 100 medical professionals across 14 teams to Ghana, offering not only voluntary healthcare services but also training and knowledge exchange.
“Although the quantity of medical supplies may be limited, they will significantly improve diagnostic and treatment capabilities in Ghana,” the Ambassador said.
The donation is a tangible reflection of the longstanding partnership between Ghana and China, one built on mutual respect and a shared vision of Health Equity.
