The United States Embassy in Ghana has issued a strong advisory to the public, warning against attempts to obtain U.S. visas through illegal means and the use of unapproved visa agents or “fixers.”
The Embassy, in a Facebook post on Tuesday, June17, 2025, reaffirmed its commitment to welcoming Ghanaians who wish to study, invest, or engage in business activities in the U.S. through legal and transparent processes. However, it stressed that compliance with U.S. immigration laws is non-negotiable.
“It is essential for all applicants to comply with U.S. laws. Any attempts to enter the United States illegally, falsify information for a visa, work without proper authorization, or overstay a visa will incur significant penalties,” the post stated.
The Embassy also debunked the myth that individuals need a visa consultant or middleman to apply for a U.S. visa. It made clear that the entire visa application process can be done independently, online, and at no additional cost through the Embassy’s official platform.
“You do not need the services of a fixer or visa consultant to apply for a U.S. visa! This can be done directly through our official website at no extra cost,” the Embassy emphasized. “No fixer or consultant can guarantee a visa. Any such promises are deceptive and intended to defraud you.”
The caution comes in response to growing reports of visa-related scams in Ghana, where unsuspecting applicants fall victim to fraudulent schemes promising guaranteed approvals in exchange for hefty fees.
The Embassy is urging all prospective applicants to use only official U.S. government websites and to be vigilant against anyone offering shortcuts or fake guarantees.
