Government has declared Friday, July 4, 2025, a public holiday, despite Republic Day actually being on Tuesday, July 1.
The Ministry of the Interior, in a press statement issued on Thursday, June 26, explained that although Tuesday, July 1, marks Republic Day, the President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama, has officially declared Friday, July 4 as a public holiday through an Executive Instrument (E.I).
The declaration is in line with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, 2021 (Act 601).
The release, signed by Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, urged the general public to observe the holiday nationwide.
This decision effectively creates a long weekend for many Ghanaians, as the holiday falls on a Friday.
