After several days of service disruptions due to an indefinite strike by staff, the National Identification Authority (NIA) in Ghana has resumed operations.
The strike, which was sparked by delayed payments of Operational Support Allowance, came to an end following interventions from key stakeholders.
The National Labour Commission (NLC) stepped in, issuing a directive that ordered staff to return to work. According to the Commission, the strike lacked legal backing since divisional unions aren’t authorized to declare such actions.
In compliance with the NLC’s directive, NIA staff have returned to their posts, and services have resumed across all NIA centers. The authority is working to ensure that operations return to normal, and the public can once again access essential services.
The NIA appreciates the efforts of all parties involved in resolving the impasse and is committed to addressing the concerns of its staff. The authority is focused on providing uninterrupted services to the public, and all necessary measures are being taken to prevent similar disruptions in the future.
