The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) and the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) have successfully shut down an illegal factory producing cannabis-infused alcohol in Ntiribuoho, Ashanti Region. The clandestine operation, disguised within a poultry farm, manufactured a cannabis-laced drink known as Famude or Kings Orange Flavoured Liqueur.
A joint team of seven officials from NACOC and FDA conducted the raid, seizing substantial quantities of unapproved alcoholic beverages and suspected illicit substances. One individual was apprehended, while others escaped and are currently being pursued by the police.
The raid was carried out by a team of seven officers—four from NACOC and three from the FDA. They seized large quantities of unapproved alcoholic drinks and suspected illegal drugs. One person was arrested during the operation, while others managed to escape.
Police are currently searching for the remaining suspects.
Officials from NACOC and FDA said the factory posed a danger to public health and broke Ghana’s laws on food and drug safety. They warned the public not to consume such unapproved products, as they could cause serious harm.
“This operation shows our strong commitment to stopping the spread of harmful and illegal substances,” an FDA spokesperson said. “We will continue to increase our checks and enforcement activities nationwide.”
The arrested suspect is in custody and helping with investigations. Authorities are asking the public to report any suspicious activities in their communities.
