Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Ernest Kumi, Member of Parliament for Akwatia.
In a Facebook post on Monday, July 7, 2025, Nana Akufo-Addo described Kumi as a beloved and admired figure within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and a passionate advocate for the people of Akwatia.
The former President praised Kumi, saying he was “adored and loved by party faithful and cherished by all who knew or shared acquaintances with him.”
Kumi was pronounced dead after a short illness on Monday,July 7, 2025. Kumi, a first-time legislator elected on the NPP ticket in 2024, had recently been involved in a high-profile legal battle over his legitimacy as an MP.
Nana Akufo-Addo extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the people of Akwatia, and the leadership of the NPP. He called on Ghanaians to remember the late MP for his dedication to public service and his unwavering belief in Ghana’s democracy.
Parliament, on Monday, buried its order of business to pay tribute to the late Ernest Yaw Kumi. Minority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin described the late MP as a young politician with a promise to contribute to the country’s democratic discourse.
Afenyo-Markin highlighted Kumi’s intellect, diligence, and vibrant personality, noting that his sudden demise was shocking to colleagues.
