The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has announced a strategic increase in Ghana’s natural gas supply by energy giant ENI to strengthen national energy infrastructure.
Beginning Sunday, 13 July 2025, ENI will boost its daily natural gas supply to Ghana by 30 million standard cubic feet (MMscfd), reaching 270 MMscfd, supporting government efforts for energy reliability and sustainability.
A statement issued by the Ministry noted that the increase would be supported by a temporary suspension of ENI’s gas export operation.
It said the measure was necessary to optimise internal supply chains and facilitate the implementation process.
“While this temporary export halt may result in some reduction in gas availability for power generation, the Ministry and its partners in the power sector have activated comprehensive mitigation measures,” it said.
These include enhanced monitoring of power production systems, real-time coordination between generation plants, and contingency plans to reduce the risk of widespread disruptions.
“We are confident that these proactive steps will effectively manage the transition and maintain a stable power supply for all citizens,” the Ministry said.
The Ministry commended ENI for its continued partnership and commitment to Ghana’s energy development, noting that the upgrade is part of long-term plans to boost domestic gas use and reduce dependence on imported fuels.
It urged the public and stakeholders to exercise patience and support the implementation of the strategic move, which is expected to yield long-term benefits for power reliability and economic growth.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to energy security and advancing Ghana’s green transition through sustainable resource management and responsible partnerships.
