A journalist with GHOne TV was allegedly assaulted by a police officer on duty during the Ablekuma North constituency election rerun. The incident reportedly took place at the Church of Pentecost – North, specifically at the Ordorkor 2 and 4 polling centers located in the Tsuimaami area.
According to the journalist, he was seated behind a vendor near the polling station when a police officer ordered him to leave. “I was just sitting behind a vendor, and the officer asked me to go out. I told him I can’t just leave because we are all working, and he slapped me on the face,”he recounted. “I have not done anything unethical. I have not done anything wrong.”
An eyewitness at the scene confirmed hearing the GHOne journalist explaining that he was working and noted that the scar on his face appeared to have been caused by his glasses during the slap.
The Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, who was also at the scene, expressed disappointment over the conduct of the officer.
“The place was calm before that particular police officer came,” the Mayor said. “It looks like the police officer is an NPP man. He even tapped my shoulder to try and sack me until he realized I was the Mayor.”

He further condemned the officer’s actions, stating, “You don’t have to know people before you treat them well. We are all Ghanaians and no one is above the law. The man trying to manhandle people is not right. We beg the police to remove this man from here for everyone to have peace.”

Meanwhile, the GHOne journalist says he will take further action by reporting the case to the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander. “I will report the issue to the regional commander, and by Monday, I will go there myself. I will take it far,” he stated.
The Ghana Police Service has yet to release an official response regarding the incident.
