
The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has appointed Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Manso Opuni as its new Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective July 14, 2025.
He succeeds Dr. Delese Mimi Darko, who has been appointed Director General of the Africa Medicines Agency (AMA) after serving as FDA CEO since 2017.
Prof. Opuni brings extensive experience in public health policy, regulatory oversight, and institutional governance to his new role. As former FDA Board Chairman, he provided strategic leadership and guidance to the Authority.
The FDA, in a statement congratulated Prof. Opuni on his appointment and is confident in his ability to lead the Authority in safeguarding public health and safety.
Under his leadership, the FDA will prioritize strengthening regulatory systems, enhancing consumer protection, and ensuring the safety and efficacy of regulated products.
