The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has denied allegations that the government plans to sell the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series forum on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, Jinapor clarified that the government seeks private sector involvement in ECG’s billing and collection operations to enhance efficiency.
“We are not selling ECG. What we are seeking to do is to involve the private sector, particularly in the billing and collection sector,” he reiterated.
The Energy Minister is therefore, encouraging Ghanaian entrepreneurs, businessmen/women as well as groups to take advantage of the opportunity and support improvements in the power distribution sector.
“We have good Ghanaian entrepreneurs and businessmen. This is an opportunity for you. Get involved and help us bring about improvement in the sector,” he added.
