
The North East Regional Police Command has arrested four individuals in connection with the alleged murder of a 70-year-old woman accused of witchcraft in Sangbana, a farming community in the Bunkpurugu/Yunyoo District.
The suspects, identified as Suuk Jakwa, 67; Banyiwoo Ntookwib, 32; Moapya Kwayaja, 30; and Amos Nlaji, 29, allegedly conspired with others to attack and lynch the deceased, Noab Bilatukin. According to the police, the suspects accused the victim of casting spells in the community, leading to her violent death.
The police acted on credible intelligence and tracked down the suspects, arresting them at their hideouts in and around Bunkpurugu. DSP Robert Anabiik Anmain, North East Regional Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident and stated that the suspects are assisting the police with further investigations.
While condemning the act, DSP Anmain reiterated the command’s commitment to bringing all those involved to justice.
He urged the public to refrain from mob injustice and witchcraft accusations, emphasizing that anyone found culpable would face prosecution in accordance with the law.
