Two members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Shamsudeen Iddrisu and Boateng Kwadwo, have filed a motion at the High Court in Accra seeking to halt the party’s upcoming Extraordinary National Delegates Conference.
The conference, scheduled to take place from July 18 to 20, 2025, at the University of Ghana Stadium, is expected to deliberate on major policy and leadership matters.
The plaintiffs, represented by lawyer Agyemang Duah of CharisBrit Legal Consult, argue that holding the conference could undermine the fair resolution of a substantive case they have already brought against the party. They contend that organizing the conference violates internal party procedures and may prejudice the outcome of the ongoing legal challenge.
The application, filed under Order 25 of the High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2004 (C.I. 47), urges the court to maintain the status quo until the core issues in the substantive case are resolved. The plaintiffs are also asking the court to issue any additional orders it deems necessary to uphold fairness and justice.
As of now, the NPP has not released an official statement in response to the court action. If the court grants the injunction, it could significantly impact internal party planning and preparations ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The Extraordinary National Delegates Conference is a critical fixture on the party’s calendar, and its outcome is expected to shape the party’s direction and leadership. The court case will likely determine whether the conference will proceed as scheduled or be put on hold pending the resolution of the substantive case.
