Ghana’s presidential jet, a Dassault Falcon 900EX EASy, has been stuck in France since March 11, 2025, undergoing repairs for severe technical issues, including significant corrosion in its fuel tanks and engine components.
According to Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the jet is “heavily corroded” and requires extensive repairs.
The minister expressed frustration over the repeated delays in returning the jet to Ghana, with the return date being extended multiple times. Despite the challenges, Dr. Boamah emphasized that renting luxury aircraft for presidential trips is not a viable solution.
Despite repeated promises from technicians, its return to Ghana has been delayed multiple times, causing frustration and concern.
Dr. Omane Boamah described the jet as “sick” and confirmed that repairs were taking longer than expected. The return date has been extended several times, with the most recent timeline also likely to be pushed back.
“It is sad to note that for some time now, whenever the president’s jet goes for either maintenance or overhaul, the date that is scheduled for it to return to Ghana keeps changing,” Dr. Boamah said. “They have extended it to two months before, and later two and a half.”
He also emphasized that, despite the damage, renting luxury aircraft for presidential trips is not a solution to the problem.
“The truth is that the presidential jet is heavily corroded,” he explained. “However, that does not in any way justify hiring or renting luxurious aircraft persistently for presidential use.”
