The Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, has assured the public that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will not abuse its two-thirds majority in Parliament.
Despite having the numbers to undertake constitutional reforms, Ayariga said the party will exercise caution and respect the rights of the minority.
Mr. Ayariga gave the assurance after the Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin had sworn in the Member of Parliament elect for Ablekuma North Constituency in the Greater Accra region, Madam Ewurabena Aubynn on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
According to him, although his caucus has a clear two-thirds majority, which allows them by law to undertake whatever constitutional reforms are needed, they will do so keeping in mind the caution from President John Dramani Mahama not to abuse their majority.
“With Ablekuma North Constituency seat in our grip, we now have two-thirds Majority,” he said.
The Speaker, Alban Bagbin, also cautioned the NDC MPs not to abuse their colleagues in the minority with their superior number.
“Allow your colleagues in the Minority to have their say,” he urged them.
The Minority in Parliament as usual of them staged a walkout when the House was about to swear in the Ablekuma North MP-elect.
