
The Black Queens returned home to a warm and emotional welcome in Accra after clinching the Bronze medal at the 2024 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Upon their arrival at Kotoka International Airport, the team was met with thunderous applause, cheers, waving flags, and traditional drumming from jubilant fans and officials.
They were officially received by key dignitaries, including CAF 2nd Vice President and GFA President Kurt Okraku, Minister for Sports and Recreation Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, GFA Vice President Mark Addo, and other senior GFA executives.
Team captain Portia Boakye led the celebrations, lifting her medal high to the delight of the crowd, symbolizing the team’s resilience and hard-fought journey.
Head coach Kim Lars Björkegren and the technical staff joined GFA representatives in celebrating the historic achievement.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation praised the team’s exceptional performance, announcing plans for an official ceremony to honor the squad and reinforce investment in women’s football.
The Bronze medal represents a major milestone for the Black Queens, reflecting years of dedicated effort, structural reforms, and a renewed focus on developing women’s football in Ghana. It stands as a powerful testament to their progress and determination.
