The Obuasi Divisional Command of the Ghana Police Service has thwarted a robbery attempt on the Tutuka-Akrofuom road in the Ashanti Region, leading to the arrest of one suspect.
In a statement, the Police said the intervention followed a distress call about a robbery on the road. Upon arrival at the scene, the responding team intercepted a group of armed men, who abandoned their operation and fled into the nearby bush.
The team found two unregistered motorbikes and a machete at the scene, believed to have been left behind by the suspects during their escape.
Police said they immediately launched a bush pursuit, which led to the arrest of one suspect, Pascal Yenkye, who was shot in the leg while attempting to flee on a motorbike.
The suspect is currently receiving medical treatment under Police guard, while efforts are underway to arrest the remaining members of the gang.
“A manhunt is underway to arrest the other suspects on the run to face the law,” the Police assured.
