Twenty-five final-year students of Agona Swedru Senior High School have been suspended indefinitely following their alleged involvement in a fight stemming from a same-sex relationship proposal.
According to school authorities, the altercation occurred after one male student allegedly proposed a romantic relationship to another male student, who declined the offer.
The student who rejected the proposal is said to have informed his colleagues, who reportedly advised him to accept the proposal and lure the other student into a setup.
On the day of the arranged meeting, a group of students believed to be friends of the student who was proposed to ambushed and physically assaulted the student who made the proposal.
In retaliation, the assaulted student reportedly informed his dormitory mates, leading to a reprisal attack.
The situation escalated into a fight involving multiple students, prompting the school to take disciplinary action.
The Headmistress of the school, Mrs. Golda Esi Andam, confirmed to Onua News that all 25 students involved were given a fair hearing before their suspension.
“These students will write their final exams under the escort of their parents,” she said. “They have now realised that the Ghana Education Service (GES) does not joke with its code of conduct,” she added.
Mrs. Andam emphasised that while the students are being disciplined, their right to education is not being denied.
She urged all students to abide by the school’s rules and regulations to avoid future incidents.
