
The Majority in Parliament has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of all eight persons onboard, including Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, and the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Murtala Muhammed.
In a statement signed by Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business Mahama Ayariga, the Caucus extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and all affected by the devastating loss.
“It is with a deeply broken heart and profound sorrow that I, on behalf of the Parliamentary Caucus, extend my deepest condolences to the families, colleagues, and loved ones of our colleagues and distinguished patriotic Ghanaians who lost their lives,” the statement read.
The victims of the crash include Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology and MP for Tamale Central; Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC; Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate; and three Ghana Armed Forces personnel — Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
“Their untimely and tragic demise is a devastating blow to Parliament, the Government, the Armed Forces, and the people of Ghana as a whole,” the Majority Leader noted.
The Majority Caucus paid tribute to the victims’ patriotism, dedication, and service to the nation, adding that their sacrifices will forever be remembered in Ghana’s democratic and national history.
“Their sacrifice, patriotism, and commitment to duty will forever be etched in the history of our Republic. May their souls rest in peace,” the statement concluded.
The Parliamentary Caucus joins the President, government officials, and all Ghanaians in national mourning for this tragic loss.
